Canyonlands looks like an extension of the Grand Canyon without the crowds. It is unbelievable the views that you will see. It is a must for the Moab area.

This park was beautiful. The colors and rock formations were beautiful. Would have liked to go back at night and seen the stars.

Many very nice canyon views. After awhile they get a bit repititious. We stopped at about four overlooks which took several hours and that was enough. Out of the way, and secluded. Scenic and pretty especially with light from sun down. We were in the Needles area, and enjoyed the Elephant Hill hike. Also, make shure you stop at the Petroglyphs, on you way to the entrance.

Island in the Sky portion of Canyonland is beautiful and worth a half-day's time. Some nice shorter hikes, check out Mesa Arch, Upheaval Dome Viewpoints, and Grand View Rim Trail. Amazing views throughout! Could not find the trailhead to False Kiva!!!! (ARGH!!)

I called only at the Eastern Visitor Centre. It is quite a way from the IS 191. The staff were very helpful in suggesting what to see in a short visit. It's probably worth a day visit to begin to explore a large park.

We found the Island in the Sky section to be the most accessible and interesting. You can tour it in half a day if tight on time. Unless you are a climber, I recommend a jetboat cruise to view the Needles section of the park. The drive from Route 191 on Utah 313 to access the park was truly scenic... More
