We visited Appomatox Court House during a long weekend at Charlottesville. It was a beautiful drive down and back (we took the country roads) and we absolutely loved Appomatox.....especially the 40 minute talk by the Civil War character actor .....he really made history come alive in an incredibly personal way. He truly transported us back in time, and we learned... More

whether you are a civil war history buff or an avid bird watcher or just like the outdoors, the trails her are well kept, well delineated, and full of information about the demise of the army of northern Virginia, whose battle flag many inappropriately ascribe to the entire confederate cause

If you don't already know about the Civil War and Appomattox, please read at least a little bit before you go and this place will move you. And remember, even those fighting for the "wrong side" can be honorable and deserving of respect.

The exhibits have enough information for both the novice Civil War buff and the expert. The staff was eager to impart information not contained in the signage. Their information gave a better perspective to the events that took place there 150 years ago.

This is the place where Lee & Grant met to sign final documents which ended the long war. Going through the building you get a real feel for the history & what transpired so long ago. Well worth a stop!

What a beautiful national park. If you are a American Civil War buff this is the place for you, but anyone can enjoy the beauty of this place. The rangers were so helpful and full of information. Great place that I'll be seeing again.

This is an excellent national park. The ranger who gave our presentation was very congenial and informative. There was so much Civil War history there. The paths between building is crushed rock and will be a challenge for strollers and wheelchairs especially in rainy weather. Avoid an employee by the name of Mike Brennan. He was very indignant to our... More

A must see for aficionados of the American Civil War. Bucolic, serene, quiet, contemplative - but a long way from anywhere. You will have to be dedicated to see this site, but it will be worth your time. Be sure to talk with rangers to determine where everyone was and what happened. See the Courthouse, McLean home, General Store. Don't... More

I was here when I was nine and unfortunately that first time the park was closed. I was determined to go back and see the McLean house as an adult. 40 freaking years later I finally get to go back only to be told the McLean house has only a few hundred bricks that are from the original house the... We visited Appomattox Court House National Park on Sunday, April 21 and were pleasantly surprised to find that a reenactment was taking place. We had planned to spend a couple of hours seeing the McLean House, the old Courthouse, and the Clover HIll Tavern where Lee's Army of Northern Virginia surrendered to U. S. Grant. When we arrived,Union and Confederate... More
