Every summer, they have an O-bon festival. If you are going to Maui during the summer, please look up the date & time that they will hold this festival. At the start of the festival, they hold a lantern floating ceremony. The food is good, and the prices are cheap. You can even dance in the ring with everyone. This...

In addition to the culturally interesting aspects of this place, it is a good place to escape the busyness of downtown Lahaina and take a break. And, the Amida Buddha and the Temple Bell are worth seeing.
My husband and I walked thru the mission and it was amazing. Such a peaceful experience and something that we read about online and wanted to visit. We were the only ones there at the time and really got to fully experience this amazing place at our leisure. Highly recommend visiting!
Not exactly a secret ... but the Lahaina Jodo Mission is a little off the well-beaten tourist path. If you are Lahaina, and need a break from the shops, and crowds, this place is well worth a short visit.
A visit to the Jodo Mission will appeal to anyone who wants to experience the culture of an area. I wanted...

This Buddhist Temple has the largest Buddha of it's kind outside of Japan. The buildings are very beautiful and the Buddha statue is impressive. There is very little information posted for visitors to read but it is an interesting stop off the beaten path. It is across the road from a traditional Polynesian cemetery which is also interesting to view.

We sought out this beautiful location because of Trip Advisor. While it is very small, it was worth the trip. We rested and took pictures of this lovely site. It is peaceful and restful. The day we went there had been a rain shower hours before. When we got there, a beautiful rainbow was above us, reminding us of eternal...

The Lahaina Jodo Mission is a compact, pretty Buddhist center. It is very well presented and maintained. Definitely worth stopping for a contemplative few minutes. A small offering is in order.
