The Kilauea lighthouse has just been renamed the Senator Dan Inouye lighthouse. The Senator had spearheaded the push to restore the lighthouse from its previous run down condition to its current beauty. The refuge is beautiful and contains flocks of local wildlife.

There is a nominal cost to get into this refuge and hundreds of birds to see. They do not charge you to look through their mounted binoculars. There are many display signs explaining bird behavior. Don't miss the little museum. Ask the rangers about any questions you have. I'm sure this is even better during whale migration.

Not only is it a wildlife refuge, but there is also a recently renovated lighthouse. While you can't go in the lighthouse, it offers a pretty stunning view of the coast. I really enjoyed our visit.

This lighthouse area has natural wonders like the view, location, the wild-life. And then there is the historic value of the place and overall a sense of pride that this special place is valued and being cared for. Sme of these birds are endangered and don't exist anywhere else on Earth. It was a real treat to enjoy them in... More

Beautiful view of the coast. Saw lots of birds, spinner dolphins, and a monk seal. Got some beautiful pictures.

Add Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge and Lighthouse to your bucket list of places to visit in Kauai. The refuge is a birdwatchers paradise and the beautifully restored Historic Lighthouse is a nautical buff’s dream house.

I thought this was just going to be a photo op of a lighthouse, which would have been enough because of how beautiful this location is. We came here last year and got here too late to enter the refuge and just took some pictures from the main entrance observation point, which were amazing. But this year we entered the... More

This is a worth while visit! You will see a lot of birds, the ocean water is very deep blue, and you can see the whales, during whale season! There is a lot of good information about the birds, whales, wildlife, etc, on your walk to the lighthouse. You will also be able to get those postcard perfect photos here... More

Take an hour of your time to see a beautiful old light house and bird sanctuary. There is no narration or guide, but stop at the lighthouse for the orientation movie about the history of the lighthouse. Views of the ocean from the lighthouse area are spectacular. Well worth the stop!

Lots of rare birds only seen here along with the Hawaiian goose, different albatrosses and boobys. Light house is fully restored. Sweeping views. Costs $5
