I was not that impressed. Have seen better ones. The hike Ito see the falls is not bad. I like that the route is paved.

I loved seeing the waterfalls from various vantage points. I also enjoyed climbing up in the massive banyan trees.
You have to pay to park your car here, which I did not expect but I think it is only five dollars and then you have the benefit of knowing there is an attendant watching the vehicles. There are actually two waterfalls here, but the first one has a partly obstructed view from the path. The Akaka falls however are...

While I wouldn't drive from anywhere on the big island just to do this, if you are anywhere on the north end, Hilo, or Volcano, it makes for a good trip, you can tour both falls from the side walk circuit in about 30 min, they are both stunning. If you can't hike into the back country or take a...

You get so much pay off with so little effort- it is a fairly easy circular hike on a paved trail. The scenery is beautiful. If you are In a hurry and just want to see the falls go left instead of right at the entrance. It would be a very short distance to the falls from there. We did...

The falls are beautiful and the walk to them was not to bad. The only part that i personally did not like was the fact that it is in the most humid part of the island.....
There are 2 options when starting from the lookout. I suggest the "suggested route". The other takes you straight to Akaka Falls, but it is worth taking the short trip through the "jungle". Once you get to the falls, it is INCREDIBLE. Save some money tip: Park just outside the gate and only pay $1 per person. It only adds...

Akaka Falls looks pretty great but because of that, it is over run with people. Go later in the day to avoid most of them like we did.
Spectacular view! I didn't realized that this waterfall is actually higher than Niagara Falls. Its a relatively simple walk in and out. The paths are concrete and in good shape.
This is one of the prettiest falls in Hilo. The trail is a bit short however (takes less than 60 minutes on a normal pace). However, the view is really worth it! The only thing missing is a bench near the viewing area to sit down and watch the show.
