Forget everything else, this is a must do. Wonderful birds and other wildlife and terrific scenery. Awesome views and tranquillity. Visitor centre is a must do too
We visited the park early one morning in September and were delighted to come face to face with a black bear on the trail just above the visitor center. We had seen signs of fresh bear scat and had been entranced by a couple of mule deer that calmly wandered in front of us a little earlier. Fortunately the bear... More
What an amazing place! First off, I love that the parking lot only holds a certain amount of vehicles. I think because of this, the trails and visitors center never seemed crowded. I would definitely recommend bear spray. We did not see any bears while we were there, but saw lots of fresh bear poop. We expected to turn a... More
A bit out of the beaten path, but well worth finding. Totally gorgeous hiking path ... pure wilderness. Bring bear spray, just in case. The center itself has a space in which you can hear and feel a rainstorm, and it's a Zen-like experience unlike anything I'd felt before. Truly beautiful and well worth the few minutes of getting out... More
Great set up and info centre. Beautiful architecture. The hike around Phelps lake is spectacular. Saw bears near the parking lot.
Was able to visit and hike the preserve just before the government shut down. It was scenic, offered good exposure to wildlife (in our case bull elk and black bear) and offers hiking options which are not too difficult. Also its relatively close if your staying in Jackson hole or even more so from Teton Village.
The Rockefeller preserve is an amazing walk through pristine forest, meadow, along a wild trout stream, along a spectacular lake surrounded by the Teton Mt. range all while constantly watching the birds, small mammals and an occasional bear. It's a quiet, tranquil place to find oneself and escape the mechanical world if only for an hour or two. Do not... More
This loop trail is located in the Lawrance S. Rockefeller Preserve. Parking is limited here and you should expect to wait in line until another car leaves the lot before you can take this hike. Everything in the preserve is first class including the restrooms located at each end of the trail. This is an easy walk. It's 3.1 miles... More
Entrance off Moose-Wilson Rd. Parking is limited and you may have to wait your turn. The 2 hiking trails to Phelps Lake are very popular and form a loop of about 3-4 miles total. Enjoyed the visitors center and library.
It is a great drive, a lot of wildlife to see-bears, elk, deer and beaver houses!!! There is a great place to pull over and look for moose also. The visitor center is beautiful, I was not expecting it to be like that when I went in. The rangers are always nice and helpful. The Moose-Wilson road is on the... More
