Visiting Neah Bay and the Makah was quite an experience. Although the entry was presaged by road signs such as "Meth is Death" , the experience was nothing like those a causal visitor has on, say, Lakota, Paiute, Navajo rez lands. Houses were neat, with flowers and hedges, trimmed yards. A large, well-stocked market and an enormous gym! The locals... More

We were traveling around the peninsula and stopped briefly to purchase the permit for hiking to Cape Flattery and to Shi Shi Beach. The gentleman in the minimart was very helpful and friendly. The hiking trail out to Cape Flattery is also well maintained.

The Makah people are very friendly and welcoming. There are places to eat, a wonderful store with helpful staff, lodging, and a history museum. Not to mention Cape Flattery. We stay at nearby Bullman Beach Inn but we always stop into the Rez to get our Reservation pass, and do all of our shopping. There are many unique finds here.

The tribal museum is excellent and should not be missed. This is the NW tip of the United States and we found it very scenic.

We visited almost 11 yrs ago and this trip was even better. They have totally paved the road up to the trail to the point. A stop at the Makah Museum is a must. Fantastic staff, gift shop w/ real NW Native artwork, and wonderful display. Well worth price of admission.

I stopped here on my way out to Cape Flattery (which is another must see!), hadn’t intended to but figured what the heck. I honestly didn’t expect much, from the outside as it looked rather unassuming. However once I started to make my way around the exhibit I was very pleasantly surprised. The exhibits were wonderful and every item and... More

I read about the dig discovering the village buried by a mud slide hundreds of years ago so we stopped at the museum. It is Very Well Done!! Many artifacts on display and even a re-created Long House. It does a very good job of showing the lives they lived. The short movie gives great additional information. Plus you can... More

Even if Indian museums aren't on top of your list, see this one. It is impressive and beautifully and professionally executed.

Upon entering area we went to the museum that honor's the tribal lifestyle, weapons, housing, clothing, and crafts. Very well done; afterwords we went to the trail and hiked down to point; this was long, and down a large slope (in other words, you will have to come back up it). The views of ocean breathtaking and watching the waves... More
