We are a floating classroom, a research vessel with HANDS-ON FEET-WET lessons. One of the many things we do is get off the boat on the sandbars to go DIG IN THE MUD FOR CLAMS. Maybe we can catch some to eat. Then it's back on the boat to cruise to a crabbing spot where you will Pull CRAB-POTS on board to identify and see the days catch. If you have the courage I will teach you how to HOLD A CRAB without getting pinched. Navigating our way to Shell Island Beach, we stop and get off the boat for some SHELL COLLECTING than back on the boat for Capt. Barry's favorite activity... hunting for jellyfish. we will then HAUL in the trawler net and will see that it is full of Marine life and sea creatures.... this is always a challenge! Time to slow the boat down to enter the shallow waters.... how many birds can you identify? we use all of our senses-SOUND,TOUCH,TASTE and SMELL- to make our cruises informative and fun. They are is never any pressure always lots of fun.. you can relax, sit back on the boat and be the official photographer, or you can get into it. This is the real deal to get your hands dirty and feet wet so you will experience the life of a Chincoteague Waterman. « less

We went on a cruise with Captain Barry last Saturday and it was 6 adults. We had a fantastic time, learned so much about the marine and wild life in the area, brought home some shells and many fine memories. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area and made our 2 hour tour leaving us wanting more. Did I mention... More

Today we went with Captain Barry and our three children 7,8 and 10. Wonderful experience! Barry is awesome with the kids, extremely knowledgable above the wildlife and all around a real pleasant Captain to spend a two hour tour with. He answered our questions too about life on the island. Pontoon boats are fun and a nice easy ride. We... More

We have two small children (age 2 and 4) and were looking for a cruise that would be interesting for them. Captain Barry's cruise was PERFECT for all of us! He keeps things moving, and gives opportunities to get off the boat and explore sand bars and shell beaches. My 4 year old loved exploring and looking at crabs close... More

Captain Barry's Back bay Cruise is worth every penny and then some!!! He is VERY knowledgeable about the bay, and is AMAZING with children!! My daughter was on the cruise, and he took us through a seagull rookery, a sandbar where she found jellyfish and shells... and many other places throughout the bay... she even got to pull a crab... Great 2 hour pontoon cruise !! Grandparents, kids (6,10 and 13) and Dad had the best time !! We dug for clams, pulled up a crab trap, ate fresh, really fresh raw oysters, went shelling, and learned about different seaweeds, plants and edible snails on this trip !! Captain Barry obviously loves teaching about the sea and nature !! If... More

Our family went on a fantastic trip with Capt. Barry in August.....and we are still talking about it! We have two teenage boys (16 & 13) and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We collected snails, did some clamming, had an oyster, and pulled up the crab trap (big crabs!)....the boat ride was excellent and Capt. Barry is very knowledgeable about... More

If you love nature, this is the cruise you want to take! We had young children and 50-somethings on board and all had fun. 2 hours went by way too quickly. Capt Barry obviously loves the area and nature and gladly answered all questions. The tour was very hands-on and took place both on and off the boat. He showed... More

Captain Barry makes this cruise a great learning experience, if you love nature you will love this adventure and will learn many details about the bay. My wife and I have done numerous nature cruises in the past and this was by far the best. Captain Barry's personality is amazing, he gets everyone on the cruise involved and tailors his... More
