I went to this place while doing conservation work with shore birds. There is a Birding center that seemed to have a lot of interested things in it. I didn't get to enjoy it though, I was hoping to go back but my conservation experience turned out to be a disaster and I had to leave the area. With what...

Even if you have just 20 minutes, stop by for a quick walk. We saw an alligator and many birds. Definatly worth the visit.
Wish we had been able to have more time. Neat area with several boardwalks and also a wooded area w/water area to refresh the little feathered travelers. We saw a variety of birds. No alligators tho. Next time!
Make sure you read previous reviews on where this is located. We drove around a bit until we found the actual trail (near the South Padre Convention Center). On the day that we were there we saw a lot of birds and were so lucky to have the resident alligator in close proximity. What a great way to spend a...

Enter at the Whaling wall, enjoy the peace & Quiet as you see lots of birds, and visit with birders (or not).
We have always enjoyed these fish and wildlife preserves, but this is the best one we have been to. The staff (who were super friendly and helpful) put out food to attract birds, so we saw some really lovely birds. On the paths around the visitor center we spotted a crocodile just 3 yards in front of us hiding at...

I've never seen birds so approachable as in Texas. This boardwalk crisscrosses over wetlands and you get to take good looks at a variety of birds going about their business and paying you little heed. You'll probably see alligators, fish, and turtles, too. I am amused by Ellenb204's recording of a duck atop an alligator's back. This must be the...

The pre-sundown light on seagulls and shorebirds at the end of the boardwalk was nice.
There were many brown pelicans, several roseate spoonbills, a few great blue herons and other birds each time we went on this trail. Just before the boardwalk starts, up by the convention center building, we saw a Flammulated Owl (small and rare) perched in a...

As you get to the trail from the Convention Centre parking area, there is a delightful Butterfly Garden. The trail itself seems to be mixed in with the Birding Centre boardwalks, for which there is a small fee. No fee for the Laguna Madre Trail, which has the same bird species. We also had good long looks at a resident...
