Artist David Adickes sculpted the huge busts of all 42 presidents of the United States over the last five years and transported them to Deer Mountain near Lead and Deadwood, South Dakota between Mount Rushmore and Devils Tower Wyoming. The Presidents Park sculpture garden is 20 acres of beautiful, mountain meadows with towering Ponderosa pines and wild flowers. A gentle trail meanders through the trees and is bordered by the monumental busts. Beside each bust is a panel with biographical and other relevant information pertaining to that President. A large, chalet-styled visitors center contains a gift shop, Cafe D'Artiste, with a light gourmet menu, and a Starbucks Coffee House. Also available in the center are books, history & articles of relevance to the presidents. Other art objects are also on display. And an educational center is planned in the near future. Our full service VISITORS CENTER opens June 1, 2002 with local Music, Art Exhibits and Starbucks Specials. « less

We had read about this but when we made our way up the hill, it was closed and it appears it has been closed for a while.

Too expensive to get in, plenty of other places in the area to learn about the Presidents

This attraction is no longer located at the original site. One statue still stands at the entrance with a sign over the gate saying that they're trying to set up somewhere else. We noticed more of the large busts on our way south from Rapid City, though, and asked for an update. The store nearby just knew that they were... More

Peaceful wooded setting off the beaten path. Great refresher history lesson for those of us way past our grade school days. Well done displays although George W looks a little pale. Dad is by his side across the way from Bubba. There was no one else there which made for a nice peaceful stroll thru the park. A little corny... More

It was deserted in the middle of a warm autumn afternoon. The park setting was not as big as we expected, but provided a gentle stroll. I can't vouch for the true likeness of all the heads because I don't remember any before JFK, but I didn't think Clinton looked like the real guy! The best bit was the information... More

This was my favorite place in a long while. The directions were accurate but the signage was poor to find it - thank goodness for the periodic Lincoln heads on the roadway. What was most fun was my firneds and I discussing weird facts of the presidents that were not on the already informative paragraphs accompanying each head. The setting... More

I recommend this highly. The setting is incredible. As you stroll along a path lined by busts of the Presidents, you hear the breeze rustling through the trees and smell the pure mountain air. I have been there a couple of times and it is not crowded at all. You can take your time and enjoy the setting. The busts... More
