Climbed to the top twice w/ my daughter. $2 for all day pass a great deal. The climb itself is not difficult at all and fully enclosed. Unless you are deathly afraid of heights it should be OK for anyone fit enough for 200 steps or so.
The small admission price gains you access to what's left of the lighthouse keepers house. Of course the main thing is to climb to the top of the lighthouse. There is a cool view from there - you can see for miles.
My husband does not like heights but after lots of coaxing he made it up the 167 stairs to the top and agreed that the view was well worth it. The lighthouse comes with lots of history for those who enjoy reading about the history of the area.
My first time to climb the lighthouse - the view is well worth all those steps :) It was interesting to learn about the lightkeepers (and their families) who served on the island long before there was a bridge.
We visited the Hunting Island Lighthouse while waiting for a water excursion, We did not go up into it but was neat to see in real life.
We loved our lighthouse experience! Watching the sea islands from the top was more than we could have imagined.
We walked to the top of the lighthouse in just over 2 minutes. I believe it was 167 steps. The view was worth the climb. The canopy was breathtaking, not to mention the water. On the way down, we took the time to read the various pieces of literature on each landing. We enjoy climbing lighthouses and were not disappointed....

This is a fun added attraction when you are already enjoying the beauty of Hunting Island State Park. There is a small fee, so have money handy if you would like to climb. Beautiful view!
Visited Hunting Island beach over Memorial Day weekend and the lighthouse next to the beach is the only one in SC open to the public so I had to climb it. Even though I have a fear of heights and my wife chickened out, I paid my $2 and took the plunge.
