The Palmer Museum of Art is interesting. While certainly not a destination, it is something worth seeing if you have an hour or two to kill in the State College Area. The museum has a wide variety of artists--mostly American, but some Dutch and Italian paintings are featured, as well as a large collection of Mesoamerican and Asian pottery. The...

There isn't an admission fee which is nice especially if you're rushed for time. The museum appears to be well maintained and taken care of and the art is displayed in a very nice manner. I enjoyed the walk through I took and I hope to come back again when I have more time. Very nice collection.
The Palmer Museum of Art is a highlight in Central Pennsylvania. A small museum, easy to get around and see, and beautifully designed. It gives a whirlwind tour of art through the ages on the first floor and contemporary art on the second floor, with several special shows on exhibit at any one time (40th anniversary and works on paper...

The Palmer Museum of Art is celebrating its 40th anniversary with special gallery exhibits. Good museum gift shop.
As other reviews have indicated, the first floor is a mix of older, classical pieces and artifacts. In this sense, it's about on par with other similar museums. You should definitely walk to the second floor to see American art. The first floor is classical paintings and artifacts from different parts of the world. The second floor is modern art.
There are all kinds of exhibits and it's free to the public. There are pieces from all over the world. Enjoy!
I love a lot of the permanent pieces at the Palmer--the Chihuly glass, some of the abstract work in the Snowkiss Gallery. It's small and a bit predictable, but they frequently get fabulous exhibits on loan. If you keep an eye on what's coming through, you can see some fabulous stuff!
This is not a big city museum but for a small gallery associated with a football-crazy university, it is a delightful place to get a dose of art. It has a nice permanent collection and rotating shows that can be very special. The theater features lectures and art films that are open to the public.
