Probably the best docent I have ever had. The tour of the house was tremendous, with a lot of details of Buchanon's life in every room. THe house is filled with items from his and his nieces life. Beautiful house with a lot of history in it. Buchanon is regarded as a bad president, but, he was very successful in... More

The docents were excellent. ThIs former President's home should be a must-see. The rooms are furnished with approximately 70% of the President's original pieces. The new visitors center offers a wonderful way to start the visit.

When visiting Lancaster County make certain to visit the home of the 15th President of the United States James Buchanan. Wheatland is visited by few, but deserves more attention. The adjacent historical society building for Lancaster County is beautiful as well and has a great gift shop. It's an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours while in Pennsylvania... More

The docent, dressed in the costume of his time (pre Civil War), explained his personal life in context with history and the home he loved. Buchanan preceded Lincoln's presidency. He was America's only bachelor president; his niece served as 'First Lady' during his term in Washington. The home... More
