This unique castle was built by a bachelor in the early 1900's and is fascinating to tour. Our knowledgeable guide took us through many of the 40+ rooms, pointing out the highlights of each room. The entire building was made of concrete with inlaid tiles from Henry Mercer's Tile Factory, which is also worth touring. Be sure to spend an... More

I arrived at the Mercer Museum first and asked at the desk if a Fonthill tour was available. The very helpfull woman at the desk got the two of us in for a tour starting in 15 minutes and we made the 10 minute drive to Fonthill with a few minutes to spare. I am so glad we took the... More

Fonthill is the Castle home of Henry Chapman Mercer. Plenty has been said here so I dont need to go into detail. Take the tour at $12; well worth it. What I do not recall seeing here is that the Moravian Pottery and Tile works is also on the property and is the TILE FACTORY where Mercer's tiles were produced.... More

The hour long tour of Fonthill Castle in Doylestown, PA is worth every minute. This castle was the residence of Henry Mercer, a Harvard educated architect and a multifaceted talent. The residence bears his unique signature in every square foot. The building, designed by Mercer, is remarkable from the outside with its various levels and its tower. Inside, it is... More

Inspired by European castles he had toured as a teen, Henry Mercer designed this marvelous castle filled with secret passageways, multiple wings and terraces and decorated with the tiles he designed(often illustrating mythical/ historical tales) in every room. Or tour guide, Dan Miller, was bright, exuberant and easily engaged everyone in our group from age 5 to older adults. There... More

This is an excellent hour long tour of an amazing structure. Built of concrete and decorative tiles by Henry Mercer. You get a true sense of the quirkiness of Henry Mercer and his foresight into building this castle/home as a future museum. He was an archeologist and there are numerous artifacts throughout the building. The tour guides provide an excellent... More

Henry Mercer was a fascinating character and this is the home he built for himself. It has 44 rooms and no right angles, and you'll have to visit a few times to see it all. While the rest of us won't be able to build anything like it ~ and many wouldn't want to ~ it has plenty to teach... More

The guided tour was excellent and we moved through the castle in a well-thought-out tour with a discussion of each room broken up with a short walk up or down a bit of stairs so the tour is accessible if you are able to navigate steps. I would recommend seeing Mercer Museum first for the scope of the collection before... More

Really enjoyed touring through the castle. It was an amazing place and I loved the fact that someone lived there until the mid 70's. If you are in Doylestown, it's worth the trip.

Mercer collected all the usual life items in his time of about 125 years ago. Building just expanded. All in concrete. Great place to bring kids to see no electronic devices.
