At one time the Salem Public Library was rated one of the busiest library's in the country for cities the size of Salem. It has a great selection and is part of the Chemeketa Library system which allows you to order books from other libraries.
People need to know what a treasurer Salem Oregon has in it's library. From the Friends Store that sells posters, books, cups, other gagetry, to the children's section upstairs, to the rental of old vinyl and artwork, the have an endless variety of entertainment. And you can always find a quiet corner to read.
Stop by the library to admire the fine collection of Northwest art purchased by the Library Foundation. Original paintings, prints, and sculpture are displayed on all three floors. LIbraries have always been a comforting place for me. And being from a smaller town, I enjoy going to the Salem Library as well.

Salem is a member of a regional library system. They will retrieve titles from other libraries, and have them waiting for you to pick up. The hours unfortunately are not as extensive as the community might like, due to budgetary reasons, but are mostly convenient. Friends of the Library sponsors very popular book sales. The library has a children's discovery area where kids can be loud and not disturb other patrons. My kids 8 and 6 still enjoy it, although the 8 year is nearing the end of it's usefulness.
