The garden won first prize out of 3200 entries in the R H S National Garden Competition and is now a Royal Horticultural Society's "Recommended Garden". It is described in the Good Gardens Guide as "a gem""a delightful garden...skilful underplanting...never feels contrived...just natural and generous...it is a wonderful education in the handling of a small space." The garden has been featured in magazines all over the world.A recent article in the Sunday Times said..."the most densely planted garden I have ever seen." The praise is fulsome...don't miss this garden whilst in Richmond. Many return again and again at different seasons. Open Daily 10 00 am til 5 00pm April til Oct Entrance £2 00 « less

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with other reviews. We just visited this 'garden' two weeks ago after seeing the details in our Brompton Lodges information booklet and I have to say all in our party were mightily disappointed - in fact having 'wandered' through the actual garden were we all confused that that was actually it!!! Ok, so... More

We were saddened that you didn't enjoy your visit to the garden. The local Garden Club were here just before you and loved seeing the winter structure, the snowdrops, the hellebore collection and the winter flowering shrubs. They also appreciated seeing the open views which in the summer are obscured by all the summer foilage. A French visitor has just... More

I went along to this wonderful garden in mid March to look at the different snowdrop varieties that are grown there. Even in the Winter months the garden itself is very attractive and beautifully laid out. The snowdrops are scattered around the entire garden growing in large and small clumps depending on the variety. You can even find them growing... More

Amazing...that after all this snow we have had and the endless frosty nights that anything has survived... What a joy that you have been able to capture some of the superb snowdrops...battered by the winter but poking up and reminding us that Spring is sort of here... You have managed to capture some of the real beauties....following the recent snowdrop... More

Lush, varied, just the right amount of charming disarray-- so glad to have been able to see it but not have to take care of it!

We were staying at Millgate House for two nights and as we had the garden apartment it became our own personal space for a day. It is cleverly laid out to seem bigger than it is yet with lots of small "rooms" to lose yourself in. Our friends made their wedding vows in the garden and it was the perfect... More

This is a small garden of less than 1/2 an acre just off the main sqaure in Richmond, N Yorks. It is on quite a steep slope but has good paths and steps between the various levels. The planting is very intense with lots of litttle areas full of colour from the roses and other flowers plus lots of greenery... More

The Millgate is situated right on the main town square in Richmond and entering into the hall and lounges is a visually startling experience with a vast array of antiques, murals and ornaments adorning every available bit of space. Bedrooms are equally quirky but spotlessly clean and comfortable. The garden stretching for ever at the back of the house is... More

A small and very interesting garden apart from the great snapshot views and plants. It gave us some great ideas for our rather small garden. Not to be missed and at £2 each entry give great value for money
