Loved the quaint little train and how we were able to walk the near mile and then ride it back watching an amazing sunset. Trains run every half an hour and while there isn't a lot to do but have a cuppa, once you get there it is a lovely experience.

We took the kids for a train ride on the pier last week to round off a nice day out at the seaside. The train is £10 both ways for a family of 4, which I felt was an ok price as it is 1.33 miles to the end and we rode both ways. Lady at the ticket office was... More

Usual sea-side fare with the arcades and such. The mile long Pier is a good way to spend an hour. Admit that on a cold day the train would have been a better option but a brisk walk was enjoyable. Not a great deal going on at the end of the pier but great views to be had on a... More

Love walking down this pier, it just brill to feel the sea air. Don't think that you should have to pay to walk down it though. Need to have some bars and amusements at the end of the pier though.

Now has a nice new cafe at the end to rest your aching limbs...unless you took the train that is! Walk and ride is a good option where travel can do one way on the pier's train and walk the other.

If you have good weather its a real treat to be able to walk all the way up this pier. I recommend to walk one way and get the train back as it is some way. A new cafe looking out to the sea and a lifeboat station rewards your tired legs!

I have been to the end of the Southend Pier quite a few times by train, but never tried walking the length of it. Although it has been damaged by a boat once and fire a few times, it still remains the longest pier in the world and it has not lost its charm. Even now the tourists like to... More

When you catch the train along the pier and back you feel like a bit of a cheat, maybe you should of walked? But it's really the higlight of the day trip to Southend... if you want to get away from the mad crush of people on the prom, feel the breeze in your hair, smell the sea instead of... More
