The mansion tour is good. The gardens are GORGEOUS. It's best to see it when all the activities are going on. It's a little pricey so if you really don't care skip the palace tour and save a few bucks. You will still get to see the other buildings and the actors will explain how they did things back in... Attended a wedding in a side garden. Beautiful wild flowers surrounding the area. The reception was held out doors at the history museum across the street. Great back drop with the river. Very nice event.

Visited Tryon Palace while staying overnight in New Bern. My second trip in a year and my companion's first. An excellent historic site with a very informative tour of the state's first capitol (under royal governors). It's a reconstruction, very few original artifacts remain. But very authentic to its historic roots. Incredible gardens and a view of the sea from... More

We visited Tryon Palace on Memorial Day weekend. To get your bearings, start off at the North Carolina History Center. The woman working at the information desk was very helpful and helped us to plan an itinerary. We only had a few hours, so she suggested going to see the Stanly House (one of two of the smaller historic homes... More

The guides entertained us throughout the entire tour. Each very knowledgeable with a sprinkling of tongue-in-cheek at times. The very tall kitchen attendant offered a detailed explanation of duties of "the period" with his studied comedic perspective. Well done! My wife, a native North Carolinian, opined, "Well worth the price of admission." Ditto from me!

The Palace and next door museum are superior attractions. Great restoration including a magnificent collection of authentic period furnishings chosen from original inventory lists. Tour guides are first rate. We were fortunate to be there mid-week in early May so we had the place nearly to ourselves.

Very good tour of the palace, entertaining and period piece of the first capital of North Carolina. May of the rooms had period furniture with the docent knowledge very informed.

A nice place to enjoy a relaxing walk around beautiful gardens. I would recommend this place in the Spring or Fall when the weather is nicer. It gets very hot here in the summer. However, their July Fourth celebration is worth a visit. The grounds are usually "free" that weekend and it is a stirring event.
