Our visit here was short, but just walking in takes you back to your childhood. The shop hasn't changed at all. Must see
Russel (Floyd) was a real treat he shared some wonderful stories about his life in Mt Airy, Andy Griffith and the Characters on the show. He is 88 years old and going strong and by the way he gave me a great haircut!
Our 13 All Star team was in town for State Playoffs.. went for a hair cut.. was in and our.. no waiting.. Floyd was at lunch but didn't mind... great value for a haircut too...
Mr. Russell Hiatt (Floyd) is great! Especially while he is still working and not retired, I would suggest that anybody coming to Mt. Airy stop in to say hello and take a picture. He loves that. If you need a haircut, it's even better.
I was very disappointed with my trip to Mt Airy. The historic downtown was not what I had pictured it to be. There were 2 highlights, seeing Floyd's Barber Shop which looks like it still has the original chairs that we saw each week in Mayberry. The other highlight is Andy's police car which sits on main street.
This was one of the best stops in "Mayberry"! My niece loved Floyd and she said it was one of her most favorite places to visit. Floyd and the other lady in the shop were so down to earth and easy to talk to.
What a neat place! The whole town is nice, but Floyd's barbershop is the best. Russell has been there forever and is so nice. He posed for pictures with everyone. When my husband tried to tip him since we weren't getting a haircut, he refused. Oh - and haircuts are still $8! Strongly recommend you visit at least once!
Didn't get a haircut but visited the shop. Made me feel like I was in one of episodes. Everyone is so friendly in this little town. I always thought it was just a movie didn't realize it was based on a real town. If you go this way make sure to drop in.
