Easy hike and you're rewarded with stunning views. Good for children also. We hiked up the trail with my son when he was younger.
The hike to the top is just a walk up an old gravel road, so as far as a strict hiking experience it's a little boring. What makes it worth it is when you get to the top and get to check out the old abandoned hotel. You should take the time to read the history of the hotel before... More
Its a little bit of a hike but it is so worth it when you reach the top!! There is a very visible and well traveled path to the top and once you get there you will get to scramble around old hotel ruins and the views are amazing!! its def worth the trip! make sure you dress appropriately (check... I must confess that I'm a full time "visitor", being fortunate to actually live on Overlook Mountain :-). After many years as weekenders my husband & I retired here almost 5 years ago. As others have mentioned, the views from here are spectacular since Overlook offers wonderful sights of the Hudson River, the Ashokan Reservoir, the Berkshires, and much of... More
From your first visit, you will fall in love with the Catskills. The area is perfect for both avid and recreational hikers. Overlook Trail is two things: A solid 2-hour workout for your glutes and a rewarding view that includes the ruins of an old hotel and a 360-panoramic from an old fire tower. Your hike will start uphill and... More

As you get higher up of course the wind generally picks up pretty well. There's a bit of trail hiking in the mix as well. It took our group about... More
Overlook mountain is not one of the tallest in Catskills, but definitely one with the some of the best views. The hike is not challenging, trail (the old fire road) is quite easy to walk and there are numerous attractions on the way up: ruins of old hotel, plenty of flowers and mushrooms, chipmunks and occasional deer. There is also... More
Parking at trailhead can be a bit tight. Not a casual stroll. This is a steep steady 2.5 mile climb with beautiful views of the area. Simple to follow gravel road straight to the top. Be sure to allow at least 3 hours.Brink water! Along with the proper clothing and footwear!
Yes the climb up the mountain is difficult and the views wonderful, but be aware of the parking situation. there is one small parking lot which fills up quickly especially on the weekends. And I guess you can park in the Buddhist Monastery too. BUT do not park along the fence which hugs the road near the parking lot. The... More
