What a nice place, beautiful wooded surroundings with lots of bird life. Helpful staff and plenty of herkimers if you are willing to work for them. I just spent a day and a half and came home with over 70 ranging in size from grains of rice to golf ball. I was suprised at the range of books for sale... More

The Ace of Diamonds is the best place for great Herkimer Diamonds. The store has a lot of great finds and tools.

The Ace Mine is a little rough around the edges (very dark and rudimentary bathrooms), but hunting for Herkimer Diamonds here (keep everything you find for the low daily entrance fee) is much more rewarding than at other nearby mines. Lots of fun for families. Wear sturdy footwear and clothes that can get dirty!

You wouldn't think that driving an hour to smash rocks and dig through rubble would be much fun. But it really is! The shiny quartz crystals are surprisingly easy to find---my wife and I must have unearthed at least 20-30 during our 3-4 hour stay. We found a whole variety, in many shapes, sizes, and colors as well. Some required... More

We decided to go on an adventure and picked The Ace of Diamonds Mine in Herkimer, NY. I can honestly say I didn't think two people close to 60 would enjoy cracking rocks so much. This is so much fun and it sure brings out the kid in you. Such a good time and I WANT to go BACK.

You gotta work a bit here. Some possible blood (cutting your finger on a rock), sweat and tears (of joy when you find a sparking Herkimer Diamond).Spend the day with two teens. Came home with about 50-75 "diamonds". Some were big, some were small. A few were utterly perfect. If you see someone with a tent set up looking real... More

Went with my 11 year old grandson and had a wonderful time, more fun than I could have imagined. The day flew by! We met some wonderful people and found many beautiful crystals. It was an enchanting experience. Ace Diamond mine is not commercialized, rents tools and supplies for a very reasonable price, and is a place I hope to... More

We went here after checking out the Herkimer mine first. The day we went there were tour buses of people going through the museum, shopping and mining. We didn't want to deal with the crowds so we left and came back another day to mine at Ace of Diamonds. This is a no-frills mine with a lot of possibilities. A... More

We read the Tripadvisor reviews before we went and decided this mine would be the most interesting. Our kids, 7 and 9 enjoyed digging in the dirt and hunting for the right rocks that hold the crystals. It is a labor intensive process but interesting enough to hold the kids attention and educational too. We found some nice crystals and... More

We went to Ace of Diamond Mines on July 18 2012 after reading a couple of reviews here. We were not disappointed in our finds for the day. Despite the HOT temperatures we find "diamonds" after being there for about 30 seconds. We brought tools with us however lots to rent there and many different kinds. The older man in... More
