We were in town the week before all the attractions opened. The bookstore was open as well as a cafe. Loved the bell tower close to the water with small beach area. Restrooms were clean. Beautiful and serene place with lots of space to sit and see the beauty around you. All day parking is $7.75 and close to main... More

A great place to walk or bike. Very interesting historic streets to travel down and view the homes. Reminded me of the towns on Martha's Vinyard. We visited in the off season so did not sample the lectures and other entertainment but hope to come back to try these.

Have you ever gone back in time? You can do it at the Chautauqua Institution on the shores of Chautauqua Lake. Would you like the opportunity to be intellectually motivated and inspired? Would you like the opportunity to sit quietly and think, ponder, or meditate? Would you like to listen to inspiring, challenging speakers in a beautiful outdoor setting? Would... More

I first visited in 1966, and like to revisit every few years, just to take in the visual beauty of this community. I love the Victorian homes, the lovely landscaping, the gorgeous Lake vistas, and the call of the Clarion Tower. Peaceful, calming, relaxing, and yet mentally Chautauqua keeps calling me back.

The community is very nice with beautiful and well kept Victorian houses and gardens. During the 9 week summer season it is a walking community, but shuttles and wheelchairs are available. Because there is virtually no traffic, elementary school children can have much freedom here. iDuring the summer there are many speakers and performances. However, the price of the gate... More

Most of CI was closed in early May, but it was just starting to wake up. The book store was open, could have spent hours in there. It was quite pleasant wandering around the grounds, what an interesting mix of homes and buildings. Obviously the IN season is the time to be here, but off season was quite peaceful. We... More

Chautauqua is one of the most unique places in the country to vacation. During the 9 week summer season, you can take classes, hear world class lecturers, attend opera, theater, concerts, and enjoy all of the amenities of a resort - sailing, kayaking, tennis, golf, etc. Each week has a theme and the morning lectures in the open-air amphitheater revolve... If you are someone who finds a vacation of sitting on the beach for hours baking in the sun, less than interesting, think about Chautuauqua. Chautauqua has all the ameneties of a resort--tennis, sailing, golf, ect. But it has so much more during its nine-week summer season. Concerts, opera, national figures speaking on today's top issues. Its a great vacation... More

The Chautauqua Institute is one of the most serene places in the world. I have been going to the Institute since I was young. It is absolutely great there.
