I stopped in here on a weekend trip to visit Lake Tahoe and I'm glad I did. Not being from the region, I knew nothing about the lake, but this tour filled me in on the geological history right up to what is going on today - there were even fishtanks that showed some of the wildlife in the lake... We had a couple of spare hours and decided to visit this place. We're both science geeks and nature lovers, and didn't expect to hear much we didn't already know, but we were pleasantly surprised. We happened to arrive just as a docent-led tour started -- it was well worth our time. The tour shared some great hands-on info about... More

The Tahoe Environmetal Research Center is an excellent place to learn about the Lake and its surrounding environment. The free tours, led by knowledgeable docents, are for all ages and provide in depth presentations of the Lakes' history, ecology, geology, and also the challenges facing the Lakes' clarity as well as what everyone can do to help restore clarity. .... I travelled to the US from S. Africa and was told I really had to visit Lake Tahoe. It was beautiful but I could find out little about it's issues and what is being done till I came here. Bravo University of Davis! This is a must see center for any tourist. They have 3D movies and really knowledgable docents.... More

The docents there are fabulous and so knowledgeable. The 3D Movie has to be one of the coolest features and it truly give you an in-depth look at the lake, literally! I learned so much. The green building tour was also very informative, I think I'm going to start planting native plants in my yard. Screw grass!

A must when visiting Tahoe. This science museum located on the ground floor of the Tahoe Environmental Sciences building has a state of the art 3-D theater, interactive screens, labs and docents. They say they receive 11,000 visitors a year. Our group of grandparents, teens and kids love it. We visit with every guest. Kep an eye out for monthly... More
