One of the best military parks I have been to. They sell either one hour of three hour CD tours--get one of them.
Well worth the drive to see this location. About 6 or so miles Northwest of Port Gibson. A wonderful little museum where you can get the presentation on this historical site and explore the array of items that await. Outside there are several walking tours over lovely grounds and also a short driving tour that will take you up the... More
Stop in on your way from Vicksburg to Natchez or spend the night camping in your tent or RV. There are several sites to see and all are worth looking at. You can easily see it all in a half day depending on how long you linger in the museum. If you're going to camp you'll need to arrive before... More
Don't miss this interesting site if you are doing the Vicksburg Campaign trail. Enjoy the old time museum with lots of neat artifacts (Confed. flags etc) All outbuildings are authentic and don't forget to walk up the road to the cemeteries and Observation tower. Park has a nice pavilion for a picnic lunch
Really interesting little museum, run by very freindly, folksy and knowledgable people. History surrounded by natures beauty. There are remains of a Confederate fort here and many historical buildings and a cemetery which you could spend hours in - really interesting. There are a lot of rifle pits and earthworks still visible, be sure to do the drive through and... More
A great little museum and interesting bit of Civil War history. A little off the beaten path, but worth the stop. Visit and go on to The Old Country Store for a great fried chicken buffet lunch.
We're Civil War buffs so there isn't much that happened from 1861 to 1865 that we don't like to see. Like Grand Gulf. It is located off highway 61 on the way from Vicksburg to Port Gibson on the road to Natchez. Grand Gulf was part of the war as Grant tried to take Vicksburg. There is a well-kept and... More
I planned my trip with alot of reading. Thought there would be a Port Gibson Military Park...but there was none. Only Grand Gulf, which wasnt so grand, but was there, unlike the Battle of Port Gibson. Went to Wintergreen Cemetary in Port Gibson to seek General Early Van Dorn's grave and could not find it. Why dont they identify it?... More
On our way to Vicksburg we passed this military park. The staff was very friendly and inside the house there is a little museum. After that you can walk the tour. It's pretty steep and it takes about a one hour walk. After the walk my wife and me had the next day pain in our legs. But it was not... More
This State Park is an absolute historical treat. It is filled with historic buildings, history, a small museum, and even an RV Park. The staff is friendly and helpful, the exhibits and buildings very well kept, and the $3.00 admission was one of the best values we found during a six week journey through Mississippi and Louisiana.
