It was so cold outside that any indoor activity was appreciated, though there wasn't much to this museum for visitors in February. We watched part of the video they had showing, but couldn't find much to be interested in. I guess I was hoping for more information on climate, travel, and even phenology of the BWCA from a woman who... More

The museum and tour of Dorothy's cabins was a terrific way to spend some time, learning about this extraordinary woman and how she lived her life independently in the Boundary Waters. The tour guides actually knew Dorothy and their stories were so heartfelt and genuine...it really is something that you should not miss while visiting Ely.

After reading Bob Cary's book "Root Beer Lady," we had to stop at the Dorothy Molter museum to see her original cabins from Isle of the Pines. The staff is super nice and you can just tell they are passionate about telling people about Dorothy and her unique and amazing life. We just happened to be there at the same... More

The way she lived was not easy, or comfortable. She treated people respectfully and liked to share her home made rootbeer and tell stories.

This was our first visit to the Dorothy Molter Museum. The tour was terrific. Great information, and the cabin is full of treasures to see. This woman has such a special story. She is so much more than root beer - although the root beer is great! I remember she was around back when I was a child (30 years... More

Family friendly activity. Very informative. Recommend picking up the Root Beer Lady book. Lot's of history on this very important wilderness area.

Dorothy really was one of a kind. Discover everything you never knew about one of the last people to reside in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Rootbeer... yum!

They have all her old guest books and if you visited Dorothy in the days she was a constant on Knife Lake, you can probably find your comments from those shining times. Her cabin, and the fence made of canoe paddles is just as you will remember it.

This organization did a great job preserving Dorothy's legacy, artifacts and spirit. The guide had great stories, the photos, letters and videos were interesting. The root beer was cold and delicious. If you are interested in history and learning more about Dorothy's life in the wilderness, this is a great place. I purchased a book from the gift shop and...
