It was late enough in the year when I had the grounds pretty much to myself the morning of my visit. Took the time to go in and out of the buildings reading the plaques. Very interesting park and nice to see it so well preserved. Definitely worth the trip and time to spend here.
As a former history teacher, I loved our visit. The recreated and preserved buildings and history is so well done. The location is amazing, just about a mile out of Copper Harbor. Well worth the visit!
Very cool little state park, caulk full of very interesting historical information. It's like a mini Greenfield Village or Williamsburg. In high season they people that live in residence and show you how the original people lived.

Fort Wilkins can be both educational and fun to visit. They offer great programs day and night. One night they had an astronomy program with great telescopes. The staff at the park is bvery knowledgable.
they were doing some work when we got there but they did a nice job on reconstructing the buildings, easy walking paths.
this is a great place to catch up on your history but a great learning place for the kids to visit, imagine kids in those days with no television, no computers, no cell phones, no texting friends, they would not believe it, the only thing they would enjoy is no bath or shower every day
This self-guided tour was just great. You can take as much, or as little time as you like, meandering through all the old buildings and reading about what life was like for the Soldiers & their families. I was so surprised that this was free! I did buy some things from the Gift Shop, and some of that money goes...
