I have visited this sanctuary for over 30 years and it never loses it's appeal or attraction. The work done here to rehabilitate and care for wild birds is inspiring and important. The grounds are lovely and the gift shop is a delight. A must see if one is in Ellsworth, and makes for a peaceful stip before making the... More

We have visited the Standwood Sanctuary many times over the years. it's great and amazing that next to the HORRIBLE ELLSWORTH STRIP this piece of the natural world has been preserved. The trails are transcendentally beautiful. It's a tribute to conservation and preservation and a stunning indictment of the greed of Ellsworth town planners.

Arrived in Ellsworth in mid-afternoon with a couple of hours to spare before our dinner reservation. Discovered this lovely area not far from the center of Ellsworth and thoroughly enjoyed our walk around its perimeter trail. Especially enjoyed the boardwalk that has obviously been built for its accessibility, so anyone with mobility issues can still enjoy the woods and wet... More

I grew up in Ellsworth and try to visit Birdsacre (as it's known to locals) every time I return. Right near the heart of Ellsworth, this beautiful retreat is a perfect way to escape the tourist madness. Acres of hiking trails, beautiful scenery, lots of animals....it's perfect for every age - and it's free! I went this year with my... More
