There are two State Capitols in Baton Rouge, the new and the old. This one is the new and lacks the charm and character of the Old. The building is fun to look at and is an impressive creature in downtown BR. It is a nice area and part of town good for walking. Too bad it is filled with... More

The last time I saw the State Capitol was several years ago. It needed a great deal of work done to it and you were not able to visit a great deal of the capital.

A great day trip, awesome place to visit and to take pics of the area. I love just walking around and looking and then going inside to learn more about the great state of Louisiana.

There is a pencil stuck in the roof of the Senate chamber if you know where to look...why it is there is an interesting story. The place where Huey was shot is best enjoyed if you can imagine him walking up the hallway. Do some research on the highights of the building and you will enjoy the journey...otherwise...you'll be lucky... More

When built, it was the tallest state capitol building and the view from the top is breathtaking. Check out the 48 steps in front with each state listed as it joined the nation.

We seemed to go on a day that every school withing 50 miles was there so we didn't get to see everything and it was little noisy. If you only go to see the beauty of the place you have done yourslef a favor. Very beautiful and ornate building from the valcanic marble floors to the painted ceilings. It was... More

We earlier toured the original captiol so wanted to see the comparison of both. It certainly is stately and first thing I noticed was all the cement and marble. You're able to go to the 27th floor and see the magnificent views, this is not to be missed. There certainly is intrigue about this building due to the assassination of... More

I have two teenage sons, who are not easily impressed. When they were able to connect their history lessons with some tangible sights, they were hooked! The observation deck was incredible.

We spent two days seeing the sights in downtown Baton Rouge -- both the old and current state capitol buildings, the old governor's mansion, the Louisiana State Museum (Capitol Park Museum), the Arsenal, the riverfront, and the nearby campus of LSU. We spent part of another day at the LSU Rural Life Museum. If we'd been in town on a... More
