My husband and I love taking in museums while in different cities. We have a fascination with the Egyptian time period. We were completely stunned and amazed and in awe of all of the ancient artifacts that included ran the gamut of human civilization.. This is a MUST SEE!!! We walked away in disbelief of all the beautiful and rare... More

Do not miss this amazing collection of Assyrian and related artifacts. You only need an hour or so to browse the halls of this small museum, but you will be stunned by the giant stone sculptures as well as the intricate, tiny artifacts. Great history, great exhibits, wonderful neighborhood to stroll around in! When you are done stop by Medici... More

I expected something to do with China, Japan or India, but instead is a huge archaeological collection of objects from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Persia. I still remember the bust of Queen Nefertiti. I lived in Chicago for 21 years and did not know until just before I left that this little treasure was there. It is actually one of... More

This manageable array of five or so smallish wings displaying the University of Chicago's shared fruits of its near century long commitment to Middle Eastern archaeology, is a memorial to a great university's research commitment. Starting with James Henry Breasted, the American dean of Egyptology, this Institute has gathered an impressive array of Egyptian, Babylonian, Assyrian, Persian and Palestinian (i.e.,... More

My fiance and I happened to stumble upon this museum as a recommended place for history aficionados. We absolutely loved it, it has a much bigger exhibit than I anticipated and the collection is impressive for the fact that admission is free. There is a donation box which we happily contributed to and were excited that it also was great... More

I accompanied my sons fifth grade class on a guided tour of the Oriental Museum. I was positively astounded with the incredible diverse displays presented at this museum. From Mummys, relics from King Tut, Assyrian to a remnant of the Dead Sea scrolls. Our guide was a wealth of knowledge and Information. Don't forget to vist the gift shop!

This is an amazing museum, for those who enjoy archeology. The Egyptian and Assyrian works shown are absolutely amazing. The museum offers lots of space to view the works, with a lot of interesting information accompanying the items on display. Really very interesting!

This is a very interesting place to visit. Lots of cool jade sculptures. A lot of history to learn about too. It's not a huge museum, but worth the visit.

Whether you have a serious interest in antiquities or just want to feel like Indiana Jones for a half-day, you will LOVE the Oriental Institute Museum. The presentation of antiquities from the Near East and Central/South Asia is riveting. The exhibits are on a scale that adults and children alike can fathom and enjoy, without the crushing hoard of visitors... More

If you are interested in ancient history of Asia and the Middle East you will find this small museum fascinating. They have a magnificent collection of statures, carvings and artifacts that are thousands of years old. You will find ancient objects here that rival the Cairo or British museums in quality if not in quantity.
