Definitely a physical challenge. 177 stairs to the top of the lighthouse. It was a great workout! Got kind of warm during the climb but the views from the top were worth it! I would do it again.

Well worth the 177 steps. I'm a little afraid of heights too. Don't wear flip flops!! Nice view at top
What a hoot! I went with my elderly stepfather on the "Haunted Lighthouse" tour. The ghost tour was fun, not too scary for little kids, but you should only try to climb the lighthouse stairs if you are in reasonably good physical condition. That said, my stepfather (who was 80 at the time) made it to the top, as did...

Best 177 steps I've ever walked. The top offers great views of the pilots who are doing flight training as they do touch and go's around the lighthouse. Great museum to go through and the beach views are stunning.
My mom and I visited this lighthouse on our trip to Pensacola. We had no idea it was on a Navy base! We figured our GPS had given us crazy wrong directions.
We also didn't know we couldn't wear flip flops, so we had to go up all 177 steps barefoot. We are both out of shape, and we had...

If you have any difficulty with stairs this will be a problem. If you can climb them, you still may be sore the next day. Very nice views from atop though.
Also flip flops are not allowed. You will be required to take them off at the bottom of the stairs and climb the metal stairs barefoot. Best to wear...

The setting was lovely, the lighthouse personnel were great. You can climb the lighthouse but if you are afraid of heights this won't be fun for you. It's really nice and you can walk over to the beach also.
Being from Arkansas, I had never seen a lighthouse before and was very excited that I found one so close to where we were staying for our honeymoon. It is a small fee if you wish to climb the lighthouse (in which you can also not climb in flip flops so beware if you have tender feet). On the trip...

I took three boys to climb the 177 stairs of the spiral staircase. I had to climb barefoot because of course I was wearing flip flops and those aren't allowed. If you like taking pictures, the lighthouse offers some great "windows" to look through of the ocean. This tour is not for someone who is scared of heights or for...
