The Naval Live Oaks Area, located on U. S. 98 east of Gulf Breeze, is open daily (except Christmas Day) from 8:00 a.m. to sunset. The Visitor Center, opened from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Originally set aside to preserve the majestic, live oak trees for the masts on ships, this historical area is a must see! From the beautiful sugar-white sand beaches of Navarre & Pensacola beaches along Santa Rosa Sound, the Inter-coastal waterway and Gulf to Fort Pickens historically preserved bunkers, this area is magnificent!
Not much there except picnic areas and a walk on the sound. The boy scouts camp there but not open for camping for the public. Stop there for a great view of the sound.
That's about all I can say. Love the whole Navarre Beach area - history, saving for the future, and beauty.
See a little of the early civil war and the the forts. Amazing amounts of work to build these things.
I learned some things that I never knew concering how lumber was obtained for war ships over 100 years ago. As a history buff I was pleased to learn more about our country. This is worth stopping at for a rest stop and learning experence.
Obviously wonderful memories for us. Also can find great areas to be alone and lose clothing.
Good attraction for birders or nature enthusiasts. Access to both Santa Rosa Sound and Pensacola Bay.
Do not miss seeing this Beautiful and Amazing remnant Nature and of what existed when Columbus discovered the "New World". Nature at Her "Finest" !!!
