I loved this beach for strolling...In fact my son and I walked from Dewey to the Rehoboth Boardwalk and it was very pleasant. My adult children enjoyed playing in the crashing waves, but it was too rough for me. I plan to check out the beach at Lewes which appears much tamer.

I have been coming to Dewey since the mid 80's and love every minute i spend here. Dewey has a variety of offerings including a vibrant bar scene, good restaurants, dog friendly beach etc... making it the best beach in the mid Atlantic region if not all of the east coast.

Driving thru Dewey on DE route 1 just gives you a sense of the excitement and commercialism which is somehow generated. Previously a totally sleepy place except in season, Dewey is undergoing a major change with large construction and a massive tourist center nearing completion. The texture of life here is forever changed, hopefully for the better. The small restaurants,... More

For $15 dollars you can go to the Town Hall office and buy a license to allow you to take your dog on the beach. This is a LIFETIME one time fee. During the off season dogs can be off-leash if under control. During the Season, restrictions apply. However, other than the 4X4 Surf Fishing Beach this is the most... More

Dewey is a short drive from DC - under 3 hours if no traffic issues. Nice and quiet Mon - Friday , things get a bit noisier and crazy on the weekends. The beach is clean and the restaurants are good. Dewey has a small town feel to it. No high rises.

Some are trying to promotoe Dewey as a family place and maybe during the week it is to some extent, family movies on beach Mondays etc. but expect noise, an active nightlife, bar goers, live music etc. If you want a quiet family vacay go to Rehoboth or Bethany Beaches.

There are a lot of awkwardly strict laws that are highly enforced here - parking restrictions, bars close earlier than elsewhere in the US, and a hyperactive local rentacop force - that results from the longstanding, but low-key, local vs. tourist war. This is not an exotic beach getaway, but it is definitely a nice place within reach of rehoboth,... More
