I rode in the back of an RV for this trip. It was SO SCARY! In a car, it might be ok. Beautiful views. Take it slow - you will get stuck behind someone eventually. If you are a thrill-seeker, then this drive is for you. It's like a roller coaster drive in your car. Yikes!

Nature at its finest! Many pull off vistas, a real twisty road to get to it. Not one I would want to travel in the winter. In the summer yes!

Take the million dollar highway due North out of Ouray and drive this scenic highway. Gorgeous views and amazing scenery. The road id a bit twisty and tight as it goes up but it's a well maintained 2 lane highway all the way and not frightening to drive at all as long as you take care.

I drove the Uncompahgre Gorge by Van last Thursday, Oct. 27, 2006. It took me by suprise. It had steep sides and a small shelf to drive on with two lanes of traffic for approximately 27 miles. There was no shoulder and no guard railes. Signs were posted to go 15, 20 or 25 miles an hour. There was hardly... More
