There are several options for palm oasis hiking destinations outside Palm Springs, and Coachella Preserve is certainly one of the largest I've experienced, comparing those at Joshua Tree and Indian Canyons. The Coachella Valley preserve is a lovely place to visit, you can stroll, walk, or hike, for 30 minutes, 1 hour or 3 hours, just beautiful, there is a lovely ranger station, helpful and kind staff.

You'll feel like you're on a movie set, but the palm trees and dunes and WATER in the desert are real! Try to go early before the heat sets in, and walk the mile trail.

We went with our daughter and two grandchildren ages 7 & 9. We enjoyed the walk and experiencing the oasis in the middle of the desert. We objected to paying high prices for hiking canyons close by to Palm Springs downtown and at the advice of the visitors center host opted to drive to the Coachella Preserve.
