Seriously, we were the only couple on the beach in mid-morning, mid-week. The sand is nice compared to some other small beaches. Water was as cold as Maine water, so no swimming. There are no signs, but if you read the Trip Advisor and compare reports, you will find it. Stairs lead down to the beach on a good path.... More

Great beach facing the open pacific ocean. Fabulous "sea stacks with nesting birds right off shore. Enjoy a time away from most tourists. Easy access but secluded.

This is a hidden beauty! I make sure to visit Garrapata every time I'm in California..It is somewhat hard to find but that's make it even better because u usually have to whole beach to yourself..u see lots of photographers there when the sun is going down. Something very magical and mystical about this beach! don't pass it by!

Walking Garrapata Beach one may come along a sleeping sea lion, or a vibrant calyx lilly or a perfect picnic nook!

This place is a hidden gem. It's about 8 miles south of Carmel, not easy to find as there is no marked parking lot. There is parking available on the wide shoulder in this area, and a well-marked path down to the beach. It is a beautiful and uncrowded beach, the best in the area.

This place, first off, was very hard to locate. I drove past a couple times. If you have ever passed thru Big Sur, you will know what I mean. Nothing is marked and obvious. From Monterey down 1, its only half the way down. Between the two bridges if you look on the left, there is a stretch that has... More

Amazing views up at the top and great hiking. It is a little known secret that is getting out. What a worth while trip and so close to Carmel.

I guess the fact that this place has no 'signs' to say where it is and no mention in the guides for the area, it will remain a treasured secret for many years to come. You can't see the 'sand' from the road. Luckily, roadside parking is very limited so this place will never become too crowded. Don't expect to... More

It's hard to stay in the car when driving along Hwy 1. Garrapata Beach has good places to safely park and lots of good hiking trails that take you down to the beach so you can experience the coastline up close and personal

There's so many places to stop along the way driving up HWY 1 and Garrapata Beach is one of them. Ragged Ridge and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park being among them.
