Heritage Hill throws great seasonal events. But I go to next door Bagels and Brew, grab a coffee and stroll the beautiful park grounds. It's really peaceful in the morning. There are places to sit and just enjoy the old trees and buildings. I love old El Toro stuff.

This is a wonderful place to take the kids (and/or the dogs) and see what life was like 80 or so years ago. If you go on one of their special days there will also be demonstrations of butter churning and all sorts of other things to see and do. I highly recommend this for a look at California history.

This small park has only four buildings, but it offers a wonderful picture of the history El Toro. On view are an 1863 adobe, a one-room schoolhouse and a church from the 1890s, and a 1908 ranch house. The buildings are furnished in the style typical of their period. Docent-led tours are available. Special events include an Autumn Harvest Festival... More

Charming, charming, charming -- a piece of local history right in my backyard. Our family has been taking guests here for years...and everyone seems to love it -- children and adults. Four historic buildings take you back to life in Saddleback Valley during another time: the Serrano family's adobe house; the one-room El Toro Grammar School; St. George's Episcopal Church;... More

You step back into your grandmother's era when you walk through the gates. Good history of the Saddleback Valley. I enjoy visiting during the Rancho Days.

This Orange County park has historic buildings showing the development of Orange County from the Spanish Rancho 1840s era to the planting and cultivation of orange groves in the 1910s. It includes the ranchero's house (surprisingly utilitarian, with fewer luxuries than I would have expected), a historic church, school, library, and an orange farmer's home. Docents give tours at certain... More

My aunt has been a volunteer for years, and I have now met the park rangers and others who make such an effort to keep this amazing historical site available to the public. The seasonal celebrations like victorian weekend, christmas lights, etc. are fabulous to visit. I have really come to appreciate the history of this area based on my... More
