Offers different modes of access, hike, drive or cycle. Interesting lookout posts, great views. You get to meet interesting people at the summit who appreciate not just the view but also the entire surroundings. Got the opportunity to take pictures of a tall cactus with beautiful white flowers, which I learned later on rarely flowers.

Dobbins Summit has an elevation of 2330 feet. The vista is quite worth the narrow, winding road that snakes along South Mountain. No photos do it justice. But take your camera and try anyway. It makes great memories. Use the washrooms at the park entrance.

Lots of trails, some easy, some more difficult. Excellent views of the Phoenix valley, particularly the airport. Not much shade on the South Mountains so take sunscreen and particularly take extra water. Lots of friendly day hikers. The mountain bikers are almost all courteous.

I am glad I had the opportunity to explore South Mountain park. It was one of my highlights in Phoenix, Arizona. The hiking trails are great but the peaceful silence is second to none. The 20 minute drive up to the summit is a must with all the curves and picture perfect stops along the way. The benches in the... More

If you visit Phoenix you need to drive up South Mountain. They close the gates around 7pm so you need to go up before then. It’s a great way to view the sky line of the city. It’s also a good place to have a picnic or go hiking.

This is south of Phoenix about 20 mins. There are places to picnic and hike. I didn't see any mountain bikes out there that day as it was too hot.

While it is only a short drive to get there, it is worth the visit! On some peaks you can see the entire Valley. I put my small daughter on my back and go for a couple of hours. I can't wait until she can walk/hike a bit on her own!

Near to the city of Phoenix yet with a feeling of remoteness it offers many hiking and walking trails. Especially appreciated by a senior like myself with COPD are the relatively flat trails that are available and don't require ascending and descending through elevations.

It is a great park. The trails are well marked but beware of bikes. It is easy to get to .Parking is doable dogs should be leashed.

Really nice park for enjoying the beauty of nature and all sorts of outdoor activity. Put on sunblock, bring water, and just go exploring.
