I visit this beautifull nature reserve and World heritage Site quite often for hikes and Mountain biking. There is endles trails to follow and it is the perfect place for a breakaway from a busy life. Lots of biodiversity to study if interested in birds, flora and the occasional baboon and even leopard.
My husband and I explored the Nature Reserve by hiring bikes from the RideIn hire shop on the Jonkershoek Road and loved cycling around the reserve. Such a tranquil retreat amongst the fragrant pines and eucalyptus. We kept to the main track but there are lots of walking trails and tougher cycling trails for the more adventurous. We topped off...

There is a seperate lane for runners and walkers, which makes for safety and great viewing whilst enjoying some exercise. Once in the reserve, hiking, mountaining biking and trail running are what dreams are made...

Many trails within the nature reserve for walking and cycling. Small waterfalls and mountains make cycle/walk attractive
Nothing fancy about this place but good for a stretch without going too far out of stellenbosch. It was a bit dried up when we visited with some protea but not much so I can imagine that spring would be a good time to visit.
We cycled to Jonkershoek from Devon valley and did the waterfall hike. Fabulous views of dramatic mountain scenery whilst walking through a breathtaking mixture of flowers. The walking was harder going than it looked but I think it was only about 7 km round trip from the dirt road. (Check out their map).
We thought of going on a longer...
