We were recommended to go to Rio Celeste by a friend but couldn't find too much about the area. Located in Tenorio National Park, there are 2 entrances to the Nat'l Park. We stayed in Bijuagua, Alajuela at Rio Celeste Backpackers and Jorge, our hostel owner explained that the road is treacherous and unless you have a 4X4 with loose... More

We went without a guide and spent the day hiking. Bring water and insect repellant. It was so worth the hike for the view of the waterfall and the view of seeing the river at the point it changes color. Saw lots of lizards and birds. The restaurant at the entrance is simple, but the food was delicious and the... More

We chose this hike which apparantly was not too popular with tourists and boy we were not disappointed. It was not too challenging for an average person and the colour of the water was amazing. The guide took us into a natural hot pool and then the waterfall. We saw where the water turns from normal river to the intense... More

Save yourself time and aggravation, spend the night at the Rio Celeste Hideaway hotel and take the National Park hike early with plenty of time and energy, its around 3-4 hours if you do the pool also. At for the park, we hired a guide at the ranger station. He was fun and knowledgeable. Also helped navigate the slippery (many)... More

We searched for a day before we found the entrance to the park to get to the Rio Celeste waterfall. My advice: Just head towards the Rio Celeste Hideaway (I think that's what the hotel close by is called). It is a very long and bumpy drive though, so beware. From there, you'll be able to find signs to the... More

Walking in the rain forest is feels very life affirming. There is a spot for a meal at one of the parking lots.

The roads to get to Rio Celeste are extremely difficult to navigate. If you have GPS, take the time it says you will arrive and double it. Unfortunately, becuase of the horrendous conditions of the roads, we got there too late to do the hike. We were still able to see the river and its colour from the bridge that... More

I've never seen water so blue! This area definitely looks like a screen saver. The hike involved is not for those not not accustomed to exercising, LOL. The drive is a long one from La fortuna, most of it on a very bumpy road.

We were hooked on this hike as soon as we came across it here on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed; it was beautiful, serene and well worth the drive and hike. Some info: I would definitely suggest driving yourself, don't pay a tour guide... HOWEVER - fair warning, the roads to get to the park where this exists are... More

The Rio Celeste hike was on our to do list as soon as my wife and son saw a photo of the waterfall online. When we booked our trip we made sure one of the days took us there. The photo they had seen did not do it justice. The hike is a moderate one...parts of it were pretty challenging... More
