There were so many birds and animals to see! Some of them are in tight cages, which I didn't like, but I think they are moved to bigger areas during closing hours. I took great pictures and had a really good time!

.A dear friend and I did this as a day trip to get away from our busy teaching (Eng.) schedules. It's an interesting collection of tropical flora and fauna and gave us the impression that we had really "escaped" for everyday hustle and bustle of San Jose.
If you have time, visit this sanctuary for rescued animals. You'll see all types of monkeys, wild cats, macaws, etc. Setting is quite natural. For us, it made spotting animals in the rain forest easier and more fun.
I have been in Zoo Ave on a friday which is - I guess - a good choice because the Zoo is nearly empty.
The whole location is created in a very nice way with very natural looking compounds. They have a lot of monkeys, birds, leguanas and wild cats there. If you decide to go there don't forget a...

This park is well done. The birds (macaws, parrots, etc.) and monkeys are the best. Signage is good with information about what you are seeing. Although the park advertises things like big cats, they hide/sleep during the day and it's not very likely to see them. Same goes for most of the larger mammals. Parking is very convenient. If you...

I hate to see animals cooped up. However, the cages and grounds of this zoo were very nice with natural vegetation. The grounds were immaculate. Interestingly, they don't have any sloths! The zoo is very informational about the threatened situation of many of the animals, and does a good job of educating people about the loss of habitat, etc.
Great park to see many birds. Good cover throughout so you don't get too warm or sunburned. Very enjoyable!
My husband and I spent about 3 hours here. We were most interested in seeing some of Costa Rica's bird species as casual birding would be one of our activities while we were in the country. We were pleased to find large animal enclosures that were full of plant life. The birds weren't always easy to see which to us...

Mostly birds, but very impressive ones in realistic enclosures. An easy walk around the paths with good explanatory signs.
Zoo Ave is a sanctuary and the entrance fees help support their effort to re-establish parrots and other species of animals that need help. The zoo is beautiful, and offers a unique opportunity to zip line if you are brave enough. The iguanas moving about freely as well as the peacocks are a nice treat for anyone with a camera....
