What a great and interesting place to visit - although it's bustling and packed even "off-peak" so keep your wits about you and expect all your senses to be bombarded!

You my be paying a little extra here but what a great place to spend an hour or so to shop or take a drink. This place is a maze of small alleyways with a thousand tiny shops selling almost anything. It is worth a visit just for the atmosphere, soak up a peice of real China in an otherwise...

This little complex is very touristy and usually packed but its cute. The old Shukomen houses have all been renovated into little shops, art and crafts, nick knacks, jewellery and restaurants and bars. Its good fun and I can recommend Kommune for a great bite to eat, they serve soup in the old style thermos flasks, cute.
A lovely area to wander, purchase unusual gifts and grab a drink or bite to eat. Not 'authentic' if you're looking for a traditional China experience, but charming and worthwhile in it's own right.
Its very nice to mosey around if its not too packed with tourists. Expect nice restaurants of every cuisine (and the toilet themed restaurant!), quaint cafes, kitschy knick knacks and spending the tourist dollar. Lots of great little bars too! Brunch at Kommune is also great if you're willing to wait on the weekends. A nice way to spend an...

visit quirky little shops and bars where the locals shop. its such fun to potter and then find a bar to absorb the atmosphere
I went here with my daughter one morning to walk around. There are (overpriced) restaurants and various shops selling souvenirs, clothing, accessories, etc. It is fun to walk around for an hour or so, but in my opinion, the surrounding streets outside this market area are a lot more fun and totally authentic!
A nice place to while a few hours and a good photography place. Small lanes of traditional 20's hutons now filled with a variety of boutiques and cafes. I like to go of an evening find a small bar and sit out and people watch. Commune does good coffee and lamb wraps
Tian zi Fang is definietly worth visiting when you go to Shanghai.
An old suburb with loads of character and old world charm. Many small alleys with shops and restaurants with a variety of arts, crafts, clothing, souvenirs, etc. It is not not like the usual market places you'd find in shanghai and doesn't sell fake goods but it is...

Tianzifang is a nice neighbourhood and offers an insight into the Shanghai of yesteryear. The alleys are full of character, but also full of people. It was almost impossible to move anywhere and if you were claustrophobic, you wouldn't like this area. It has plenty of cafes and the stall selling ices was a real gem. The shops sell the...
