A beautiful site, though could do with a little more cleanliness. Enjoyed the fresh coconut juice, pineapple & unripe mangoes. There's even an artist who sketches your portrait for Rs.100.

One of our outings included a visit to the Mattupetty dam, about 13 kilometres from Munnar. The driver left us at one end of the dam and drove the car to the other end for parking. It is a dam to store water in a reservoir for generating hydro electricity.

This is situated around 12kM from Munnar town. It takes around half an hour to reach there. The dam has some local shopping. The main attraction is boating and it is not to be missed. If lucky you can get view of some wild animals.
Tthis could be a miss if you dont have much time itz just a dam with tourist street shopping. It could be better in monsoon time.
The mettupatty dam is just half an hour drive from Munnar city and the boating in this lake is most memorable moment in my life.

A ten minute boat ride for which you have to wait for almost an hour. And that too at cost of Rs 500. Skip the ride and just enjoy the tranquil water.
The road on the dam is very narrow and hence causes traffic jams. Less water in summer. You should also visit the flower garden, which is really very nice and is not very far from the dam.
You can see the dam even without getting down from your vehicle, it is on the way to Top Station. There are some water activities around the dam - speed boat, or boat ride (we did not take it).
Mattupetty dam is about 15 Kms from the Munnar town. If you are driving from Munnar then take the bridge right next to the IOC Petrol bunk and immediately turn left after crossing the bridge. The road will take you directly to Mattupetty dam. I would suggest, even if you have GPS navigation just ask the locals for directions. We...
