Wonderful hilltop with a fantastic short walk around the top of the wall with views in every direction. You can do day trips from Motovun to all of Istria.
We stopped here on our way back from Porec. It is a great little 2-3 hour stop. Really the only thing to do is walk up and around the town. A lot of little restaurants and craft shops. The restaurants all serve various truffle dishes. It's not exactly San Gimignano in Italy, but a nice little hamlet nevertheless.
Motovun is a pretty amazing hill town in Istria. Although, it is a steep walk up to the town from the parking area, the food and views make it worth the effort!
Or you might miss this place. Motovun, for all its fame, is really tiny. It's dramatically situated on top of a steep hill. If you drive to it, you'll either get to park 80% up the hill, or 0% up the hill, from which a little bus will take up up top. We got to park 80% up, and it... More
We spent a day seeing the hilltop villages & went to Buje, Groznajn, Zavrsje, Oprtal, Livarde & Motuvun. I liked Motuvun the least mostly because of the hordes of tourists & it was too touristy for me. It is a steep uphill climb but we were allowed to take our car up to a certain point. IF you had to... Another walled city...NO...this has areas within the city that can be explored. Visit with the people who actually live there....many of them have little shops in their homes where you can buy stuff. Restaurants, shops, eateries, bars.......everything is there....even Don King...we saw him while visiting. Great place to visit!
Really enjoyed our trip to Motovun, as part of a tour of these hilltop towns. We hired a car and went exploring. Parking was reasonable and there were lots of restaurants. Not a great deal to see in the town, but the views made it worthwhile. Had a good meal in a restaurant part way up the hill with views... More
Small but cute place to experience breathtaking views and taste great food and wine and on the spot you can buy it. At the top is a beautiful hotel in which you enter and forget everything around you and relax your body and soul in their wellness and spa. If you want to get away this is the perfect place.
Motovun was a charming hilltop walled city in Istria. We happen to be there during a heat wave but it was still worth the climb. You can go up in a car but if you do you can only stay 20 minutes. Definitely not enough time. We walked up in about 20 minutes but it is UP. If you have... More
Really enjoyed our half day visit here. Coach passengers are transferred up by mini bus though cars can make the steep climb. But then there's a steep climb on foot on cobbles up into the old town. Worth taking a pause for breath and trying the locally produced olive oils and tasting the liqueurs on the way up. The ramparts... More
