The old town area is fantastic. Cows, sheep and dogs roam the streets with the locals. Great to walk this area after (or before) visiting the Palkhor Monastery.
After visiting Palkhor Chode and Kumbum Stupa, my group and I walked through the "Tibetan Quarters". Maybe that was one of the most genuine spots we experienced in Tibet during this trip! But watch your step as there are all sorts of "traps", with cattle manure being the most smelly one!
Not many towns in Tibet combine historical character with monuments. In the old street you can see cows and goats coexisting with modern 4X4 and motorbikes. One of the most picturesque corners in Gyantse
