Avenida Atlantica is closed to motor traffic on Sundays. If you can choose, choose a Sunday for your visit to the beach. Also on the afternoons it has a market with the best deals on souvenirs.

What I like about this beach:
1) The sand is clean and golden, lovely for sun bathing.
2) It is wide and on the side away from the sea there are football pitches, beach volleyball courts and facilities for all sorts of beach sports, which reduces the probability irritating ball games in close proximity!
3) There are plenty of bars...

It´s the quintessential debate - Copacabana or Ipanema? Try both and be your own judge, but know this girl says Copacabana all the way. I don't care if it's been done, it's awesome! This beach has it all and you won't have to move further than arm's length to reach it. There's a constant stream of food and drinks being...

a lovely stretch of open beach with lots going off - football , beach volleyball , a curious mixture of both (?) - lots of kiosks selling a range of differing foods and drinks by the beach and across the road there are lots of cafes and restaurants for the evning

I wasn't overly excited when I got to Copacabana Beach. It is beautiful and nice and sandy however after travelling to the South Of Brazil I found the beaches to be so much better. This was a good beach for running on the evenings
On a rainy day, it was nice and breezy to walk along the beach. What I found was nice was that one could eat Acai dessert (not to be missed!) and sit near the beach to appreciate the views, and a on a weekend, roads are closed to allow for people to cycle and skate! I also enjoyed the fact...

Definitely this is one of the largest, if not THE largest urban beaches in the world. It extends for several kilometers, and has been home to two of the largest rock concerts ever held anywhere. It seems to be the heart of Rio.
That said, it is not what I would call a "pretty" beach in the sense one might...
