This home built in 1882 has an interesting history that you learn about during the tour. Hopefully, you will get an experienced well spoken tour guide as we did to take you through the rooms. There are four primary living areas that will be explained to you but the emphasis is not so much on the function of the room... More

Hearthstone is a beautiful and historically significant home. A not to miss location upon any visit to Appleton. The Christmas decorations are absolutely amazing!

The way this house has been preserved is wonderful. I was in awe of how they decorated it for a "victorian christmas". It was beautifully done and the volunteers at the museum truely love what they do and are happy you come to visit!

Authentic restoration with enthusiastic guides. After touring the house, be sure to go to the basement for unique electrical pieces.

Loved the old fashioned decorations, the gift shop is great for their unique Christmas ornaments. Can easily see it all in about an hour.

Not scary .... even a little. Athough the tour guide was a nice enough fellow, the stories were quirky and I felt embarrassed for him by the end because no one was buying it.

The stories were fun for the season. The tour guide was fun and it was a nice experience. One thing I think they need to focus on is people with children. The tour was not focused on children and some parents were not watching their children as they should have and they touched, bounced on bed frames. I really wanted... More

Magnificently restored. Great details on the tour, both about the home, the personalities, and the history of the town, if you ask.

We visited during the museum's History Alive weekend. Our kids enjoyed interacting with reenactors from Betsy Ross to John Wilkes Booth. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. We learned how significant Appleton was in the proliferation of electricity as this was the first residence in the world powered by hydroelectricity. The house is wonderfully preserved; we appreciated the original light... More

I've driven past this house for over 30 years and finally took the time to stop during their most recent Open House. What a beautiful place. In addition to its unique status as the first house with electric lighting, the indoor woodwork is fantastic!
