Mount Bonnell is not that big of a deal, but the view you get from there is spectacular. So, I just rated it somewhere in the middle. You see a lot of locals up there, which proves it's something good, but I wouldn't want you going very far out of your way to see it.

I take all my out-of-town friends here because the views are great. Lake Austin is scenic, and you get a taste of the hills without driving very far from downtown. As I write this, TripAdvisor has images from Mount Bonnell as the images for Town Lake. THIS is where those were really taken (Google image search to double-check in case... More

There are a lot of good spots to view Austin from. This was one of my favorites. The height made it possible to get a nice view of the snaking lake and the area

This is a great spot to watch the sunset. It's a little bit of a climb to get to the top, but nothing that most people couldn't handle. It's fun, romantic and very pretty. Great way to see the natural beauty of Austin.

The picture is the reason for going here...Look down on numerous lakefront mansions. the climb to the top can be a bit strenuous for those with physical challenges (age, etc.)

This was totally unexpected. Not the easiest to find as this Park is right in the middle of a residential area, but once there it is well worth the visit. You can either get to the top by climbing the stairs or take the path. Taking the path gives you spectacular views of the Colorado River and the surrounding Austin... More

We liked the overlooking the lake and the mansions. It was breath-taking. You park on the road and climb stairs up to the top of the hill. The hill is covered with trees and when you get to the top you have this amazing view of the countryside, the mansions, the boat docks and the boats going down the river.... More

We started our stay in Austin with a climb up the steps....there are lots of steps.....the view is great. It was crowded but it was expected as it was a holiday weekend. You can stay 10 minutes or hike the trails or picnic. Beautiful homes on the hillside.

I love the views at Mt. Bonnell. It is definitely work the very short hike. I highly recommend visiting this area and taking a few photos while you are there. However, I prefer it at less busy times. The last time we went it was not as crowded. Get there early to avoid an influx of tourist.

Mount Bonnell is generally believed to have been named after early Texas newspaper publisher George W. Bonnell,[5] who moved to Texas in 1836. George W. Bonnell was publisher of the local paper The Texas Sentinel and was prominent in early Texas and Travis County (Austin) affairs after the War for Independence.[6] Though sources have long credited George Bonnell as the...
