Polar bear twin babies are now displayed at Maruyama Zoo. They are running around inside their playground. So cute! While we were there, cubs cried for milk, and their Mum decided to breast-feed them. You can also enjoy woolves, penguins, monkeys, etc. The access from Center of Sapporo City was easy. Plenty of cute polar bear toys were sold in... More

For the most part, it's a pretty alright zoo. But for SOME animals, I think it's pretty cruel. Especially the 'tropical' animals such as the giraffes, hippos, lions etc. They're in unbelievably tiny cages that barely give them any room to move around at all, and they look pretty depressed. From the pictures, it seems like they might also be... More

The zoo is basically well zoning whereby you will not feel tired of walking if you follow the route. Besides, solar power and snow are used in maintaining the room temperature which I was very impressed. I like their designing in viewing the animals too. Different point of views such as side view, front view, back and bottom view from... More

Physically, the animals all appeared to be in very good condition, and this zoo had a focus on research and zoological studies, etc. But the enclosures (if they can be called that), for most of the animals were incredibly small and very 19th century in design. The monkey house was TINY, with only a small amount of space for each... More

It is more than 20 minutes' walk from the Maruyama Station. The zoo does not have many big animals, like elephant. Tigers and bears are not active, may be it was too hot for them in summer. The zoo would be more suitable for kids. It is less attractive for adults. If you really have no other place to go,... More

If you are in Sapporo in summer try to make it to the night zoo. The zoo is pretty average, but the yubari melon soft cream is really good and the baby orangutan is pretty cute.

Smaller (or appears smaller) than Ueno Zoo (Tokyo) which I visited last fall. However, lots of animals to see. Lucky to be there in the mid afternoon to see animals feeding (giraffes, lions, tigers, hyenas, etc). Zoo looks dated and as such, wish the animals had more space and more "natural" looking environments. My preference, however, is Ueno Zoo, which... More

Small, cramped cages and old mangy animals really left me feeling awful. Zoos as educational centres that have large enclosures and as close to natural habitats as possible are the only kind of acceptable zoos in my book. This isn't one of those places.

This zoo is in the process of being upgraded and some of the older accommodation for the animals is not up to standard .The new enclosures are however good. There is a nice walk up through the woods from the Jinga temple

It was fabulous! Some of the reviews we read were not that great but it isn't a huge place. They had ice slides constructed for the kids and adults and we loved it. It was fun to go even though it snowed a little
