We purchased our tickets on the wharf. This saved us a lot of money and it goes directly into the community. When you use a tour agent the island people do not make very much money. This was a long boat ride to get to the island. We stopped at one of the floating islands on the way, and then... More

Located on top of an island mountain, Taquile is a couple of hours' boat ride from Puno. Taquile is only accessed by about a million steps uphill, and departed by more, because going down it is less of a grade. By the time we reached the village at the top we are seriously winded at maybe 400 or so feet... More

It was a pleasant boat ride out to this beautiful island. There is about a half hour hike to the top of the island once you get there, so be prepared to take your time due to the high altitude. The weavings here, done by the men, are very tight and beautiful, the best in Peru, so be sure to... More

Took a boat tour via the floating islands the to Tequile which took a mammoth 2 and a half hours. Tequile is a beautiful island. We walked all the way from one side to the other, first uphill, stopping for lunch at the main plaza, before making our decent down the famous or infamous 500 steps. It was very hot... More

Thanks to our private guide, we were able to have a boat all to ourselves (me, my wife, guide, captain) and he took us to a secluded part of the island where we walked from one side to the other over the local trails, on the way meeting and interacting with some of the people whom the guide knew. In... More

We looked upon our trip to Taquile Island as a "time filler". There is very little to see on the island, neither can it be called picturesque! We had a guide and was informed about the local people and how they lived. We walked halfway up towards the centre of the island, the main square when we crossed a field... More

I'm not sure which floating islands we visited. We visited two of them. Many won't allow visitors. I people were a delight and our guide did almost all the talking...they are a very shy people and don't speak English; other than a couple English songs the children sand to us. Again, a MUST VISIT!!!

Many reviewers scorn this boat trip as "touristy". Well, it is that, but worth the half day tour never the less. You will never be able to walk on floating reed islands anywhere else, and the boat ride on a nice day is sweet! The islanders do their best to entertain you, and we enjoyed the informative lecture of how... More

Three hours in a slow boat worth it for visit this beautiful island. You can walk around the island in stone sidewalks seeing the most beautiful sight of Titicaca lake. Also, in an aimara's house I ate the most delicious bass of my life.

You'll be captivated as you are introduced to a family who will teach you about their heritage and skill of their fine and detailed knitting mastery. They'll show you their tradtional dances and offer you a glimpse of their scrumptious diet as they prepare lunch for you. Most importantly you'll be amazed that people can still go about their 'primitive"... More
