Go see this if you're in Copacabana. One tip, there's a "Virgin" inside the church itself. This is a replica. The real one is down a dark hallway on the side of the church, lit mostly by candle-light. Amazingly eerie and filled with testomonials from people who felt the virgin made their dreams come true.

Is a remarkable building showing the big influence of the Spanishs with their catolicism, churchs, bibles, blood and dead, Is not a Church or a Cathedral is a Basilic!!! Huge beautiful with gold in their walls and Saint figures in a very poor poor country. Many hostels rooms in Copacabana and many places for a good Bolivian Food, you have... More

This palce is absolutely stunning. Sadly we could not get inside which is supposed to be breath taking as there was a carnival on and the entrance was completely covered with festivities.

This church is a landmark in bolivia, many people come here for a blessing. Drivers park their mini buses or taxis outside and bless their vehicles, hoping the virgin will protect them and bring them luck. Copacabana is a small town, so this cathedral is a must see.

An unbelievable basilica in a very small lovely town. The altar is extremely impressive. All hand-carved and covered with gold leaf. If you're going to be in Bolivia, definitely visit Copacabana and this basilica.

Visited a lot of churches whilst in South America but this one was certainly one of my favorites. The best bit for me was the little chapel on the side where candles are lit for loved ones. It was an amazing sight. Candles are lit for whole families and there are waxed messages on the walls and the floor has... More

Known in Latin America as the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Candalaria, it is this figure for Catholics that has made this town a pilgrimage destination at major Catholic holidays of the year. One can visit the church, the chapel at the rear, called ´camarin´, the Chapel for Candle offerings, and the museum which has a cloister. It is true... More
